Exterior Design
The 2027 Kia Sportage Plug-In Hybrid features a bold, technical aesthetic tailored to the streets of Scottsdale, AZ. Up front, vertical LED headlights are bordered by signature boomerang-style daytime running lights that flank a sharp digital grille motif. Matte and gloss-black body cladding along the lower doors and wheel arches provides contrast, while standard 19-inch alloy wheels establish a planted stance. Roof rails come integrated along the top, accommodating additional gear for weekend trips out of the valley. Heated power-adjustable side mirrors with built-in LED turn signals help clear clear morning visibility, and solar-control glass helps filter intense heat and sunlight to regulate interior ambient temperatures. The power liftgate simplifies rear access, and a discrete charging port access door is integrated near the rear panel.
Interior Comfort & Technology
Inside the cabin, the layout centers on driver-focused technology and flexible passenger accommodation. Synthetic SynTex leather seating comes standard, offering multi-level heating and ventilation for the front seats to adapt smoothly to changing desert weather. Dual-zone automatic climate control includes dedicated rear passenger ventilation ducts to ensure balanced air distribution across both rows.
The dashboard houses dual 12.3-inch panoramic display screens, combining a digital driver instrument panel with a central touchscreen interface. The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ connectivity, backed by front and rear USB-C charging ports and a wireless device charging pad. Seating versatility is enhanced by 60/40 split-folding and reclining rear seatbacks, offering up to 34.5 cubic feet of dedicated rear cargo space that expands to 65.5 cubic feet when folded flat. Audio options include an available 8-speaker Harman Kardon® premium sound system.
Performance & Handling
Under the hood, the Sportage Plug-In Hybrid combines a 1.6-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with a high-output electric motor and a 13.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. Together, the powertrain produces 268 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque. Power is delivered through a 6-speed automatic transmission, offering responsive shifting without the rubber-band feel often associated with continuously variable transmissions.
All-wheel drive comes standard, equipped with active electronic torque vectoring to route power dynamically between the front and rear wheels based on road conditions. Driver-selectable Drive Modes allow adjustments to throttle response and steering weight, while multi-terrain settings assist with light off-pavement driving. The suspension relies on front MacPherson struts and an independent multi-link rear setup, tuned to provide a smooth, composed ride over varied highway surfaces and urban streets.
Safety Features & Driver Assistance
An extensive package of active safety and driver assistance technologies comes standard on the Sportage Plug-In Hybrid. Key safety features include:
- Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist: Detects vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists ahead, including support for junction turning scenarios.
- Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist: Scans blind spots during lane changes and provides steering intervention if a collision risk is detected.
